Davante Tried to Hump Me

So, as with every other Thursday afternoon at 4:20, I arrived at my daughters daycare. The long day at work has worn on me and I am eager to get home to start my nightly chores so that, eventually, I can take a load off and relax in front of the boob tube or in a nice hot bath.

I walk in and as usual, my six year old spots me from across the room and does a full barrel run to tackle me with love. She is so happy to see me and seems to be in good spirits. I sign her out and we leave.

As we are driving down the street we begin our usual ritual of discussing her day. What she had for lunch, any interesting things that happened, where a bug bit her, etc. To my shock and surprise what came out of her mouth from the backseat, as nonchalantly as you please, was, "Davante tried to hump me."

I regained control of the vehicle and came to a stop sign. I turned my head around to her and, trying to sound as casual as she did, said, "I'm sorry, what did you say?". She repeated her statement and I stared dumbly at her. She began to give further information, telling me that Davante pulled her off the tire swing and onto the playground, got on top of her and began a performance similar to what our dog, Duke, sometimes does.

Needless to say, I was flabbergasted, appalled, shocked and furious. Somehow, the act that this child had done had taken away a tiny piece of my child's innocence.

Come to find out, my daughter, after having punched him in the face (good girl!!), had reported the incident to the proper authorities and nothing had been done. They hadn't even had the decency to explain this to me themselves.

It was as if the whole thing wasn't any big deal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't normal daycare behavior, right? I spoke to the school director regarding the matter and was told that the boy's mother had been called. Personally, I think the juvenile detention center should have been called.

What has happened to our society that sexual behavior is now displayed among the playgrounds of preschools? Who is to blame? Is it the parents? The television? I would like to know who to hold accountable for my child's loss of innocence.
